Olvidos

2013

Forgotten 2013

Until just over fifty years ago, Art History had paid little attention to women in their roles as patrons, collectors and, above all, creators, tasks in which many excelled with great brilliance. Due to the prevailing misogyny, the difficulty to access the Fine Arts studies and the lack of economic independence, the artist woman has endured for years that her work was less valued than that of her family and colleagues, when not ignored and / or supplanted, only because they were the most recognized figures in the art world. The women who suffered from this lack of transparency and especially Judith Leyster, Rachel Ruysch, Camille Claudel, Gwen John and Dora Maar are dedicated to this work.

Five women, five epochs and different circumstances represented by a type of paper of different quality, which shows its diversity in time, space and technique, and which have in common the presence of cut-out areas that denote the lack of recognition they suffered during his lifetime.
